Technic Seat for Claw or Scoop

Technic seats have peg holes and a thin side that make them candidates for
claws but not scoops.

Claw:   The seats work very well in a claw.  When 2 seats face each other
in a claw they fit around a ping pong ball.  The holes allow the use of
pegs to join several seats laterally for a bigger claw.  Unfortunately, the
thin sides do not fit flush against each other to form a continuous blade;
instead, they form widely-space teeth.  Several seats joined laterally on
both sides of a claw can serve as large coarse-toothed claw with
overlapping bite.  The holes allow the firm assembly of a large claw with
sides and an extended back composed of plates secured by beams.  A large
claw of more than 5 seats will gather several ping pong balls.

Scoop:  The seats do not work well in a scoop.  With 2 or more seats joined
laterally, a 2x plate fits on the seat back with 1x excess between the
"teeth" of the blade; still, not too strong with plates held by stud
friction only.  Everything pushed into the scoop rolls back out.  Any ideas
to use the seats in a scoop?
