After starting on a trailer for my 5571, I realized that an 18-20 stud wide
trailer just won't cut it. I'm going to need a 22-24 stud wide 96-104
studs long) in order to properly fit the 2556 Shell Ferrari or other
Technic cars on there. But building one that wide will look a little
strange on the 5571.
So now I'm considering building another 5571, and widening the cab 2 studs,
and the sleeper 2-4 studs, while keeping the rear frame the same width and
adding a second set of tires in the rear. My problem is making the
transition from the 12-wide windshield to the doors, set at 14 studs, look
right (use 1x1 black cyl bricks?.
I also want to put a Technic engine in the truck and hook it up to the rear
tires - will I need 3-4 diffs here? One for each rear axle, 1 between
them, and maybe 1 in front of them? I want it so that turning any one of
the rear duallies turns the engine.
Also, how to hook it up to the engine without interfering with the current
steering setup? I'm not worried about being TOTALLY accurate, so I suppose
I could use a chain from the driveshaft to the engine.
Soooooo, ideas here? I'm thinking I'll need to lengthen the hood and front
frame 2 studs to give comfortable room for the Technic engine, if not
more. I might as well make the sleeper a stud or 2 deeper while I'm at
it. I'm trying to decide if I should widen the hood 2 studs too.
The problem? Keeping all this straight in my head and properly stretching
it at the right parts while building the new one from the 5571
instructions.
Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
