The Mona Lisa uses a pointillist style that I first saw in Roy Cook’s Aayla
Secura Pointillist Mosaic winner of best mosaic at Brickfest 2006. My method
differs slightly from Roy’s. Roy attached his 1x1 round plates to Technic
bricks. I attached my 1x1 round plates directly to a plate beneath. Roy’s method
allows more of the underneath color to “bleed” through than my method. My method
allows the color to “bleed” more symmetrically.
The pointillist style allowed me to make my mosaic nearly the same size as the
actual picture (21 inches by 30 inches)
A mosaic on the Mona Lisa has been done a number of times before (Harshbarger
(2000) and Nguyen (2006) are two that I know of).
The brickshelf folder also contain a photo of another, nearly completed,
pointillist mosaic.
