I was trying to figure out how to do brick-built spiral stairs besides the Lego
Harry Potter or Pirate or Belville specialized pieces because I wanted a (1)
plate high riser/step height, & I came across this Brickshelf folder by
MuffinToa:

MuffinToa mentions in the folder that as built, the stairs are too small for
minifigs (headroom wise I assume by counting plate heights). So I fiddled in
LDD for a bit with the idea & slightly modified it into a ‘U’-stair (#1) to get
around the headroom problem (the pieces shown at the bottom of the pic are what
were used in the models, the different colors are for easier viewing):
Then I thought of using a technic & dowel pieces for a similar hight riser in
#2. Finally I arrived at my favorite in #3, just by adding an extra 2x3 plate
next to the existing one. This also allows for a 1x1 brick central supporting
column with 1x3 slopes for support.

Here's a solution I came up with a few years ago that uses a 2 plate riser...of course that's easily accomplished with many plate/tile combinations, but at least it's not as steep as a full brick. | (...) Hi, Your solution is close to mine, except that for me the step height is 2 plates. I always build my stairs (even the straight ones) with a 2 plates step height except if it's a stair in a square in front of a church for example (in that case (...)
