Hello!

It has been a while since I posted, been busy with life and all....

I just thought I would share a new technique I have been kicking around for a while.

I started by wanting to build the old Perrys Egyptian Theater in Ogden, Utah in minifig scale. It is an amazing building that was built in the 1920’s during the Egyptian craze that started after the discovery of King Tuts tomb.

Unfortunately I haven’t gotten much accomplished other than the Lego graph paper drawing and this roof study I built to see the feasibility of such a roof in Lego. I built a couple versions and was able to expand it to this about 9 months ago:

I don’t know if it has been done before, or at least at this sort of scale. It is actually quite simple and very effective! I just built a traditional roof out of 2x2 and 2x4 slopes. I then added a ridge at the bottom to stop the bricks from sliding off (as well as the sides, naturally). Then I just added rows of stacked 1x1 rounds until it was full. Then capped the whole thing off with a long row of 1x1 cones!

My first roof study I did about 3 years ago, featured only red 1x1 round bricks. After thinking about it I decided it was far to monochromatic and boring, so I threw in some dark orange and brown to give that nice aged, mottled look.

You can check out a couple more pics (sorry, they are a bit blurry unfortunately) on brickshelf here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=219914

Feel free to use this technique, and let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Bill Vollbrecht

P.S. Hopefully I will soon be posting some pics of my 4 1/2 foot Maersk blue skyscraper I built for NWBrickcon this year!
