I used the parts linked above to make some octagonal towers in a large castle
MOC I built recently.  At the bottom, I attached two opposite sides (parallel)

"float", just resting on tiles for support.  This was quite stable, especially
since the towers connected to wall segments at various points higher up.  I
don't have the MOC in front of me, but I found a point at which the octagonal
shape was closest to a perfectly symmetrical shape, but for the scale I wanted.
It was not a "perfect" fit.  As I recall, if I measured the number of studs
between parallel panels, I believe that I got them to be 14 studs one way, and
15 the other.  This was with 6-wide wall segments (which was the size I needed).
I don't know if you can picture what I mean, but you can find these dimensions
by building a "brace" between parallel walls, across the octagon.  Build two of
these, at right angles to each other.  Good luck!

Thanks to all who replied!

I got to look at the Lunar Lander which the exact same idea as you guys.

Hopefully I will get the time to put in the finishing touches to my FIRST MOC
and post pix of it soon.

Cheers,
