I posted this message to lugnet.cad.dat.ideas because it had an attached .dat
file.  However, I was looking for comments and help in this group, so I am
reposting it here along with a link to the message in the lugnet.cad.dat.ideas:

I've been working on a castle tower for which I need a spiral staircase.
Unfortunately, I sold off my HP sets that had the prefab spiral staircase
parts, so I had to come up with something myself.  Here is what I have so far.
In the ldraw file, I ommitted the 1x2 plates that I put in between the wedges to
give the staircase more balance (they are in the first step, but I forgot to put
them in subsequently).  I am still working on making attachment points at the
top
and bottom of the staircase.  I would be interested in hearing about some
solutions for making those attachments from people in the group.  Also, tips on
improving stability and locking the staircase in place would be welcome.

(...) Well, I can't look at .ldr/.dat files at work, so I have no idea what your model looks like right now (how about a pic and toss it on brickshelf?) but I can show you what I did when I built a spiral staircase for one of my Moonbase modules (...) (20 years ago, 16-Jun-04, to lugnet.build)
