With all these MASK vehicles, the toughest part has been figuring out all
the mechanics and the best way to implement them. So please take a look and
let me know what you think! I'd especially like to hear from those who
played with MASK toys as a child or watched the cartoon.

Hi Garett!

You've picked one of my favorite shows as a kid. It's a shame it didn't do
as well or last quite as long as the toy line did but it started getting
pretty silly in the 3rd season and it got dropped about halfway through that
year in my hometown. :/ Then again, the toys got pretty silly too.

I had the Rhino, Thunderhawk and Condor from M.A.S.K and the Piranha from
VENOM but that was about the extent of my collection of the toys as I was
more into GI Joe and the original Transformers.

I'd say you've hit the vehicles  on the head, the Rhino especially. It's
very close to the original and looks just as I remember it. My friend had
the Gator - which I thought was better as the Jeep than the boat, but here
again you've nailed it.

I never saw the Manta as a toy, though it was one of two that had they made
or I had the chance, I'd likely have gotten as toys. The other was the
Porsche 944(?)that turned into a submarine. I thought it was just the
coolest thing at the time. :)

I know the toy Manta's wings are stored along the length of the chassis and
swing out to the sides... but as I recall from the cartoon, the wings were
parallel with the rear axel - running left to right and the wheels rotated
180 degrees - flipping over as the wings swung down from under the car and
out to the sides. The magic of animation. Talk about a complex system that
would be high maintenance if used in real vehicles! :)

I don't know this that would be any easier to model in LEGO, I kind of doubt
it, but that's what I recall from at least one episode of the show. Maybe
keep the rear wings as you have them but have some way for the front wheels
to be 'reversed' like that - even if you have to manually take them off and
flip them around.

Keep going! MASK vehicles are on my list of things to try someday but it's
great to see other's keeping the memory of a fairly original cartoon alive.
Great stuff!

(...) The Piranha was actually my first MASK toy, but for now I'm staying away from trying to do lego versions of any of the motorcycles. I actually started making a Lego version of the Condor but it got insanely huge. (...) Originally, I set out (...) (22 years ago, 14-Mar-03, to lugnet.build)
