I wasn't going to post this, but my Valentine told me it was worth posting.
Personally, I think she's a little biased. ;) Anyway, here is my story about
my LEGO Valentine:
Before Valentines day, I was sitting at home working on my current project,
when I noticed I had a lot of spare red 2x2s.
And of course the thought came to me to make a little red Heart for my
Valentine. Heck, it might win me some points, if ya know what I mean.. wink
wink nudge nudge...
So I created a little red Heart out of red 2x2s. Didn't look bad. Didn't look
all that good either. My Heart was too small, my Heart's shape didn't look
quite right.
All right, bigger, yeah, bigger Heart, more voluptuous, more detail in the
curves.
So I built a bigger red Heart out of 2x2s. Not bad. It's big, looks like a
Heart, and it's... red.
Too plain. So I dug out all the white 2x2s I could find and made a border
around my red Heart. Nice, very nice.
But now the border made my plain red Heart look too... plain.
OK, gotta write something in my Heart.
What to write? Be Mine works, but it's a little Valentines day only. I knew
if I gave my Valentine a LEGO heart she would...
1.) Never let me disassemble it (good thing they were spare 2x2s)
2.) Want to show it off 365.25 days a year (counting leap year of course)
3.) Fall in love with me all over again (a gamble at best)
So I needed to write something in my Heart that was a universal thing,
something that would work year round. Hmm...
"LOVE"
Yes, LOVE works. It's universal, works with a red brick Heart with a white
brick border. I'll do LOVE.
ACK! My LOVE is too big! Letters based on a width of four and a height of
five (all capitals) didn't fit in my Heart.
Ok, time to shrink my LOVE.
ACK! The capital letter 'E' doesn't like being only four bricks high! (Bricks
only, no plates)
Back to five high. But my nice red brick Heart with the white border is too
small for my 'LOVE'.
Gotta break my Heart. Redesign my Heart. I shall rebuild it. Make it faster,
stronger, better... The Million Dollar Heart! Ok... not quite.. too much
coffee.
I built my LOVE, and surrounded it with red bricks (not all 2x2s of course)
with a one brick width between them.
Now to build my Heart around my LOVE.
Alright then, my Heart is half built and about a third bigger than the original.
But wait. My 'LOVE' isn't enough! Something's lacking. Something's missing.
Something needs to be placed under my LOVE to hold it up.
I know! YOU! YOU will hold up my LOVE. All right, a plan! Now to build YOU.
But wait! My LOVE is odd! And YOU are... err... is even! ACK!
Ok, I can't have YOU, but I could have U.
All right, U can be odd too, just like my LOVE.
So I put U in my Heart under my LOVE and finished my red Heart with a nice
white border.
But my Heart doesn't stand up too well on it's own, it needs a good foundation.
So I'll build a good solid square white foundation. Not bad.
So I give my Valentine my Heart, and she hugs me tightly and says thank you.
After all, what better way to express my LOVE than through the medium in which
I work.
But a few days later I was looking at my Heart, and thought it looked a bit
off. Maybe I should redesign it. So I tell my Valentine that I think my Heart
looks off, and she helps me decide what to do.
First I tried to fix the 'V' in my LOVE to look more like a 'V.' That didn't
work. 5 high and 4 wide, I couldn't think of a way to make 'V' look any more
like a 'V.'
Then I tried to see if I could make the humps of my Heart look more round.
That didn't work. I turned to my Valentine and she looked at me and smiled.
'I love your heart just the way it is' she said.
That made me almost forget about changing my Heart ever again.
But right after she said that line, that wonderful thing she said to me, after
saying that wonderous, loving, reassuring phrase, she said:
'But ya know what would have made it look better...'
Ugh... Women... At least my original plan of a dozen roses was a success!
So here's a photo of my Heart. I don't think it's all that great, but my
Valentine said it was, so here you go.

| Thanks, though it was long reading it was fun as such and left a warm feeling after it. I like the heart too! I think Eric Harshbarger had an alphabet some where on his site, I can't seem to find it right now and I might be wrong, but it might also (...) (21 years ago, 20-Feb-03, to lugnet.general)
