It's a very large, compact and heavy model. If you like cog gear
action, it's not the thing to get. There are only very few gears in the
sets, as the only things operated with gears are the steering and the
rotation of the crane.
When it comes to playing around with the model, the lift on the rear
is quite well done. I found the "telescoping" crane action to not work
very smoothly, besides, the crane itself is very "flimsy", meaning that
you can not lift large objects.
Also, the configuration of the wheels make it difficult to make a turn
on a smooth, level surface. With some rear counter steering, this could
have been much better. If you want to drive it around a lot, I would
actually recommend removing the middle wheels, as this will make it go
much more smoothly in the turns!

| I'm looking for reviews of the 8462 Tow Truck model. It looks neat in the catalog, but how is it really? How is it to build, to play with? Thanks for any insights you can share. (26 years ago, 19-Apr-99, to lugnet.build)
