While breaking down some sets from a recent clearance run, I came across an
interesting new part...  42607. It looks like a wing 12 x 6 with notched
corners, but it has the distinction of having a technic brick (2 x 4) molded
into the inboard end. That technic brick has three holes, the outer two of
which contain an interesting new quasi-non-removable technic pin, the inner one
is empty. The pins rotate, but they doesn't want to come out on their own. A
little prying with a small flat blade screwdriver allowed me to remove the pins
from one of the two wings and now I have something which looks like a nice
little 24 x 6 platform for a train car (trolley car or whatever). If this is
not strong enough on its own, there is room on either side of the technic brick
molding for some 1x reinforcement plates.

Below are a series of picture showing the two wings apart, and assembled as
well as the two pins that I removed. I suspect that the two pins I removed can
no longer be used as intended, but thats of no major concern as technic pins
(the typical black ones) are plentiful.

(...) Hi Ray, That's not a bad idea! I ended up with about 20 of those after the clearance sales. I was thinking that there should be a good way to use them. I may have to try your method and see what I can do. Thanks for passing it on... Tom (22 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.build, lugnet.trains)

Great platform idea Ray! I am going to try it... I have been meaning to post another part idea, I came up with last week... After getting all four of the new mini-SW set I found this little part in 4486 - Mini Snowspeeder and AT-ST. Part x226 (...) (22 years ago, 21-Jan-03, to lugnet.build, lugnet.trains)

(...) Ray, what set is that from? I scoped a couple of the pics but am on dialup so didn't see them all. Great idea for a rounded end vehicle (a trolley perhaps?)... ++Lar (also diggin' that Ditch Light that Robin posted about elsewhere in the (...)
