Wow!  Very cool.  Unfortunately, it's not really what I'm trying to
reach.

I'm going the opposite way -- my ultimate goal would be to build a
structure that actually has a curved surface.  Short of that, I'm
willing to use any parts in any way necessary to to approximate a
smooth, curved surface.

I've posted an MPD of some of the ideas I described in my first post.
It's at <http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dat/ideas/?n=176>.  The 4-wide and
8-wide objects are very much what I'm looking for, but the 6-wide
objects mostly suffer from non-cylindrical-ness, or they have odd
surface texture/patterns imposed by the parts used to construct them.
