Those windows turned out great!  Are they wedged inside arches?
That's quite ingenious.  I didn't spot the partial hinges, though.

Yep, it turns out that the radar dish pieces are (of course) exactly
the size of the opening within two 2x6 arches placed facing each
other. There is a little 'notch' in the center inside of the arch
which is a hair lower than the 'walls' of the brick, so with some
sort of frame to squeeze the arches together, the round dish stays
in there. Unfortunately, since the upside down arch has to have a
tile on it's 'underside', resting on another tile, it is very easy
to just push out that wall section.

I was worried that 2x6x2 inverse arches had been invented without my
noticing it... I'm relieved to hear that it's just some clever SNOT
design.

I wonder if you could fix that by putting a pair of Technic axle
between the two arches in lieu of studs?  Alternately continue the
bottom arch down farther using 1x6 bricks, and "trap" the wall panel
in the foundation of the building.  Or both.

As for the hinge parts, they are the bottom half of the 1x2 90
degree hinges http://www.brickbay.com/catalogItem.asp?PartID=3937
They are placed facing 'upward' on the bottom, on top of the first
layer of grey bricks, and then also placed facing outward a little
below the roofline.  You can see them in the front photo
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=95708 in line with
the uppermost grey grilles in the center of the building. It's
easies to see them on the side of the building, in profile.

I see, very clever!

What's the story behind the K-8?

I don't know the details of the WAMALUG K-8, but I believe we got
these big boxes of Lego from the company to use for kids to play
with at shows we do. We are allowed to take out parts as long as we
put in the same amount. For some reason, one of these boxes had
dozens of just the bottom parts of these 1x2 hinges, so I tried to
find a use for them.

Sort of like a Jambalaya that was started by TLC?  Interesting!  I
wish our club had that...
