I found a stash at one of my normal LEGO suppliers, not a super discount but 3$ per egg, or 35$ USD for a full case of 12. I have offered to repack these for some people since they really don't care about the duplo itself, just eggs in as (...) (22 years ago, 13-Sep-02, to lugnet.build)

The mutilation is not the tubing cutting, it is in taking the wheel off the car steering wheel part as the nub on the base is heat formed to hold the wheel on, it's not intended to be removed.
