Take a look at this news release from a few months back. (URL) they are indeed making NBA theme Lego I would hope that they produce ethnic minifigs. Of course the Soccer Lego had all yellow heads (I believe). (...) (23 years ago, 26-Aug-02, to lugnet.build.minifigs)
