Hello all,

I haven't been around here much in a while (and have been out of the LEGO
loop in general lately), but I have built a new original MOC, the N19
Vigilance fighter (and it's variant/cousin the N19A Marauder
fighter-bomber), along with pics of a couple of older MOCs, a combat
airspeeder and a short-range starfighter. They are all viewable in this link:

I had quite a bit of fun getting back into the swing of things with original
work (I used to do it quite a bit, but had been focusing on Star Wars
customizing of existing ships, and plan to devote more time to it. With the
N19, I had hoped to make a ship that didn't look like anything I had built
before, going against my usual design tendencies. In the end, it ended up
looking a bit like a Naboo ship...oh well! I decided to run with it and do
something I'd never done before - create a backstory:

In the years following the invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation, the
limited Naboo security force decided, with great hesitance and after much
debate, to adopt a more militaristic approach to it's defense forces. While
they had won the battle of Naboo, the limited fleet of N1s suffered
tremendous losses, even versus the remote controlled droid fighters. This
lead to the creation of the N19 "Vigilance" Fighter-Bomber, a more heavily
armed (and armored) cousin to the stalwart N1. Aesthetics and appearance
took a backseat to straight ahead capability. While still somewhat sleek,
and highly maneuverable, the N19 is considerably upgraded in firepower. It
features the same forward mounted laser armament and proton torpedoes of the
N1, but adds, concealed under the front "mandibles," four heavy Taim and Bak
KN6 laser cannons. The hull plating is heavily armored, hence its more
industrial look. Even the Astromech is protected by the armored hull, hidden
under the removable cowling behind the cockpit. Being patched into the
ship's systems, the droid doesn't need to "see" with it's own sensors, hence
the concealed design!

In the following years, as instability continued to grow in the Republic,
the peaceful planet of Naboo realized that its forces might need even more
support, for even greater planetary defense, or (if absolutely required)
invasive offense. This led to the developement of the N19A "Marauder"
Gunboat. While very similar, this variant includes a top-mounted rack which
includes six concussion missile launchers as well as two massive Naboo
Engineering Systems X10 sublight engines, to compliment the two existing
X20s. While the N19A is a bit less maneuverable than the N19, it is actually
FASTER, in spite of the missile rack and heavier power core.

Long-winded, I know, but hopefully not too lame! In any event, comments and
critiques of all three ships are welcome!

-Brian

As commmented previously Brian, I really dig the shape of the N19 as it looks like a militarized Naboo fighter. A little bump for those who may have missed it. Cheers, -G (...) (snipped buncha good stuff) (...) (21 years ago, 3-Apr-03, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.space)
