Annie Azure was the first of a class of vintage light-freighters. These commonly-seen ships have brought necessities to far-flung colonies for decades. The ships’ importance in bringing much-needed medical supplies to the remote, plague-stricken colony of Velveteen Skyflower made Annie Azure freighters famous for a time. Despite a somewhat chunky-clunky look, children across the colonies were commonly seen playing with Annie Azure-related toys. Out with the hex-wing fighters, and in with the good ol’ freighters, vessels that contributed to the life-blood of interstellar civilization.

Compared to other cargo ships, such as the Metacluster Explorer, Annie Azure freighters are relatively cheap to construct and operate. Therefore they became indispensable for the delivery of goods to colonies that reside in the outer shell of exploration, where law-and-order is sometimes scarce.

Annie Azure freighters are modular in design. This contributed to their usefulness in the outer colony regions. On the ship’s front, the “Blue Blunder” light fighter provides swift offense against marauding space pirates. To the aft, the “Astro-Lunch Lander” also carries armament and can serve either as the freighter’s tail-gunner, or fly wing with the Blue Blunder. The cargo section, affectionately called “The Hippo”, can also put up a fight, and most certainly run as it carries a decent fuel supply and some serious thrusters.

The Hippo is designed to securely store eight standard freight containers, plus some extra goods. These bays can also be modified to accommodate four to six passengers. Some ships have been converted to meet the needs of deep-space astrophysical research. Despite being the largest part of the Annie Azure-class starships, The Hippo has the most-cramped cockpit out of the three interlocking sub-vessels. People of smaller stature tend to be more comfortable operating this part of the ship!

The Astro-Lunch Lander (ALL) is primarily intended to serve as the freighters’ shuttle craft. This small and fuel-efficient ship is perfect for retrieving important supplies required to operate the freighter. If in-person meetings are needed, say for sensitive freight contracts, the ALL is the vessel of choice for such encounters.

The Annie Azure may find its way to Brickfest PDX...

Thanks for reading. Have a great day!

-best,

Wolf

(...) Wolf, This is great! Playable, swooshable and practical, and a great homage to Classic Space. Thanks, George (17 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Wolf, Once again, you keep the light burning for Classic Space with supernova powers! Keep 'em coming so I can happily bask in the embers of yesteryear. Dave S. (17 years ago, 16-Mar-07, to lugnet.space, FTX)
