This is a scale model of the STEWART J CORT, the first 1000-foot bulk freighter on the Great Lakes (those five large lakes that sit on the border of the United States and Canada in the central part of the continent). The CORT was built in 1972 and typically spends its life carrying taconite (partially refined iron ore) from the port of Duluth/Superior, at the Western extreme of Lake Superior, to steel mills in Indiana, at Southern extreme of Lake Michigan.

My model of the ship is 9 feet long and 35 studs wide. It was built from the same number and size of individual components: bow, stern, and seventeen mid-body segments. The shape and size of internal cargo hopper is true to the original ship as well.

I’ll be showing this model, along with my 13.5-foot cable-stayed bridge, at NWBrickCon (early October in Seattle, WA, USA).

Enjoy!
