I wanted to see if I could make a transformer just out of the pieces in 4100
and 4099. My inspiration came from all of the folks who have posted their
great transformer MOCs here on LUGNET. Since I never tried to make a
transformer before I wasn't sure if I could build one at all. I think it
came out pretty good considering it only needs parts from one copy of each
set. This goes to show that those two sets do a good job of providing a
nice part assortment (great job TLC!).
This version started as kind of a design study to see if those sets had the
right parts to do the basic transformer type movements. I did the legs
first, which are of the classic automobile transformer type (like so many
Autobots and Gobots): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/durbano/Transform/racecar/v1/i11.jpg
I admit the head makes the hood look a bit busy when it's a car. I tell
myself that this just looks like exposed parts of the engine (in-takes and
what have you) but I'm sure others could find a way to hide it better. I
was just so excited with how this turned out that I didn't have the nerve to
try to change any of it: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/durbano/Transform/racecar/v1/i04.jpg
Hope you've all found any of this interesting. I'd love to hear feedback
and comments. This is the first MOC I've ever announced in this way on
LUGNET. Sorry some of the pictures are a little blurry. I don't have a
digital camera so I took still frames from my digital camcorder.
Hey that looks fun. The Car mode is neat. Good stuff to put on display at the Road Show in Philly. Right on. e GardenSLUG (22 years ago, 19-May-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)
(...) Hummna hummna humna... (...) Paul, YES and YES. This is terrific. That car mode is neat and could pass as a real auto (give or take an intake ;). (...) I think that's a great way to start. Sheer beauty... That's my comment. Transforming things rule! Besides that, you captured the Transformer "feeling" well. I like the robusteness of the car mode, and (unlike many transformers) the elegance of the robot. It somehow seems finished, (...) (22 years ago, 19-May-03, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.general)
