Some changes in the server's xinetd.conf are being made today so that the NNTP
daemon can respond to other ports besides 119. This may or may not require a
reboot (depending on how smart xinetd is about this sort of thing). If a
reboot is necessary, there will be approximately 2 minutes of downtime while
the server reboots, and then things will return to normal.
I'll make a follow-up announcement here when the new ports are successfully
running.

| Good news -- you can now connect here via NNTP using ports 8000 and 8080, in addition to the standard NNTP port 119. If 119 (the default) works just fine for you, then there's nothing you need to change. Otherwise if you're behind a firewall or (...) (26 years ago, 30-Oct-98, to lugnet.announce)
