First Annual Custom Brick Community Building Contest: Hosted by Brickmania.com and co-sponsored by BrickArms and BrickForge

Hello everyone!

At the urging of friends and supporters I am calling for a community wide building contest aimed at highlighting custom parts and kit-building within the LEGO fan community. The purpose of this event is to feature and promote community-built MOC’s (“My Own Creations”), and in particular those using custom / third party / value added parts and instructions. To this end I have also asked for and received co-sponsorship from my two favorite custom parts suppliers: BrickArms.com and Brickforge.com, who are also generously providing contest prizes. The entire month of April is set aside for building (entries must be registered no later than midnight PST on April 30th) and voting will take place the first week in May. This will be a COMMUNITY JUDGED event where each person will be allowed to vote on models in each category plus an over-all “best in show” winner. The official categories and contest rules are below.

Thanks for participating in this event!

Dan Siskind, founder of Brickmania Custom Kits.

Contest Categories

1. Bignette: this is a scene which fits on up to 4 32x32 baseplates in any order and contains at least ONE of the following: an identifiable model built using Brickmania instructions/kit or custom elements from BrickArms or Brickforge.

2. Vignette: this can be on a 6x6 to 12x12 plate and must be in the parameters of the plate you choose, and can be for anything you design within rules. Custom parts not mandatory but encouraged.

3. Custom minifig: this will be a minifig you designed and can use any parts from LEGO, BrickForge, BrickArms, Fine Clonier, etc. or your own customization. Model must be at least recognizable as being 51% LEGO parts.

4. World War (I or II): this is a custom model or scene you designed based on subjects from either World War.

5. Castle or Ancient: this is a custom model or scene you designed based on something castle era or earlier.

6. Pirates or Colonials: this is a custom model or scene you designed based on Pirate theme or anything from the “Colonial Age.”

7. Modern Era: this is a custom model or scene you designed based on something in the modern era.

8. Space and Future: this can be any futuristic type ship, scene or other model.

9. Customized Brickmania kit or instructions: This will be a model you have customized from a Brickmania design model. Be sure to reference which Brickmania kit your model is based on.

There will also be an over all Best in Show grand prize

Rules:

1: Please make models all-ages and politically and religiously appropriate, refrain from swastikas or crosses or “nude” minifigs and such.

2: Your entry must be of a unique item, created by you (except where exempted in the rules) and never seen before on the net... So you have to build something new and not rehash some old stuff...

3: Have fun.

4: Have even more fun.

5: You can enter as many times as you like in each category, but no model can be entered in more than one category.

6: Entries must be posted at the Custom Brick Community MOC Contest forum at http://www.brickmania.com/community. Look for the instructions on how to post contest entries. Deadline for posting entries is midnight PST on April 30, 2009.

7: Judging will take place by community vote during the following week. Each community member will be allowed one vote per category plus “Best in Show.” (it IS possible that Best in show may not win in it’s listed category!). Contest sponsors will determine the outcome in the event that a community vote results in a tie.

8: Prizes: The winner of each category will receive a prize pack with goodies provided by each sponsor plus a custom trophy (total retail value = about $75). The Best in show = A sealed copy of 3739 Blacksmith Shop autographed by Dan Siskind.

9: Violation of said rules will result in model being removed from contest and possible contestant disqualification.

10. Play fair!

(...) <snip> (...) Wow. Wow. I've been needing motivation to build something recently, and this just may do the trick. Also, thank you very much for posting this on Lugnet! Hopefully it'll generate a good amount of traffic here. And the prizes sound (...) (15 years ago, 2-Apr-09, to lugnet.build, FTX)
