Hi all,

depending on from where in the world you connect to the net, you may have
experienced access issues with LUGNET today, starting around 7 a.m. GMT and
lasting to approx. 3 p.m. GMT (literally as I write this).

The reason for this was a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on a major
German domain name registrar, especially one of their major DNS servers -
unfortunately the one that - among others - carries the LUGNET domain zone
files.

We are currently sorting out what to do to prevent reoccurrences of such
outages, although this was the first incident in years and will certainly be
addressed appropriately by the affected registrar company (the impact on their
business was _HUGE_ to say the least).

On the upside, the LUGNET server infrastructure didn't suffer any harm,
everything went smoothly, only some email deliveries and - obviously - web
access were limited.

Just wanted to let you know what happened ;)

Regards,

Jerry
