One of the features of my Unofficial LEGO Sets/Parts Collectors Guide that I
haven't mentioned much is a LEGO Price List.
I included this for folks who want to insure their old LEGO sets, but have no
reference source to do so. Well my "Insurance Price List", a 381 page document
at the end of the LEGO CD references over 4,000 dollar amounts for sets in
varying conditions.
I used the same condition variables as used by other antique toy collectibles.
They are "VERY GOOD", "EXCELLENT", "MINT IN BOX", and "MINT IN SEALED BOX".
Here is a sample page from the price guide, taken from the LEGO Trains section
(all blue track era LEGO trains are listed). This compliments the 30 page
CHAPTER 14 - LEGO TRAIN SYSTEM (1966-79), which pictures and describes all LEGO
Train sets with 3 digit set numbers (used 1966-79 with the blue track sets).
At the end of this post is the descriptive for conditions (identical to that
used by other collectibles).
NOTE: Not every LEGO set has ever come up for sale. In those instances I have
used "collector comparables". This is the process used by antique
retailers/auction houses to assign value to certain items based in similar
items.
This 381 page Insurance Price List covers all sets produced from 1949-80.
Enjoy!

LEGO Sets Condition Guide:
MISB - Mint in sealed box condition. On early sets, box top is removable, but
the bottom is clear plastic shrink wrapped with the parts within. On sets after
1965, entire box is clear plastic shrink wrapped. Most spare parts packs were
not shrink wrapped. Wood box sets and suitcase sets also had no shrink wrap.
So for all these items, MISB is not an applicable condition.
MIB - Mint in box condition. Same as MISB, but no shrink wrap. For basic sets
from 1949-65, it is somewhat difficult to keep the parts in the box when the
shrink wrap is removed.
EX - Excellent condition. Signs of minor wear, but box and contents are in well
cared for condition.
VG - Very Good condition. Signs of heavy play wear, even for box. Some pieces,
or box inserts may be missing.
