Hi all,
After sounding out opinion Ive decided to run this as both a challenge and a
competition. My reason for this is that I dont want to discourage people from
submitting models which they fear wont win but I also realise that for some
people competition spurs creativity.
In order to best accomodate this I would like people who wish an image to
compete to clearly mark it Remix Lenin Competition Entry and post it to the
lugnet.cad.ray newsgroup. Likewise please mark non-competition entries as Remix
Lenin Challenge Entry. If you cannot post to Lugnet for some reason, email your
entry to me at tgould(.DOT)lego(@AT)gmail(.DOT)com and I will submit it for you.
Judgement will be on overall quality of the image. This will include rendering
quality, postproduction quality and aesthetic quality. Judges will be announced
at the close of the competition. No prize will be awarded although I may make a
virtual award to suit the virtual nature of the competition.
The Model
If you havent guessed it by now, the model has something to do with Lenin. In
fact, it is a statue of him. I decided on this partially because I use it myself
as a test for rendering techniques and because it has no distinct theme and thus
doesnt bias the challenge towards people used to rendering certain types of
models.
*** LDR file ***
Duration
This challenge will run until Monday the 6th of March. All entries to the
competition must be in before 6pm GMT on that day. Challenge entries can be
submitted whenever you like but I will only collate those submitted before that
date.
The Rules
- Everyone is encouraged to join in. Even if youve never rendered before this might be a good chance to start and to learn something.
- You can join at any time before the 6th of March by submitting an entry to the lugnet.cad.ray newsgroup and marking it with the correct title.
- Multiple entries are allowed in the challenge. Enter as many times as you wish. The competition is restricted to one entry per person.
- Original model must be kept intact and in its original colours. However props of any form may be used so long as the original model features obviously and prominently.
- Any postproduction is allowed using whatever techniques and software you choose.
- POVray or MegaPOV rendering is preferred as it allows the greatest number of people to learn.
- All techniques and settings should be described as clearly as possible. This includes render settings and postproduction. If other people can reproduce your work then you have done well.
- It is requested that you post a POVray file (or multiple files) containing as much information as possible to allow others to render your model. I understand that this may be difficult for those with multiple includes but please try. LGEO and lugnet_colors.inc (and the individual colour files) do not need to be included. Please add your name in a comment at the top of all files you include.
- Competition entries must include the source file(s) within reasonable limits.
- It is quite acceptable to use techniques mentioned in earlier entries however this should be credited. Verbatim copying of POV files is discouraged.
Other information
I will be adding all submitted images (possibly rescaled if they are too large)
and source files (where possible) to a folder in my BS gallery
(here). I will attempt
to identify them by the initals of the author and a number.
Make Lenin proud with a good remixing!!!!

| I totaly *love* this idea of challenge annex competition! It's been a while since I last rendered a scene and have to regain my skills. I have some idea on what I want to create, but it will be hard to do. All entries so far are absolutely beautiful (...) (19 years ago, 7-Feb-06, to lugnet.cad.ray, FTX)
