Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Ben Ellermann
Hi everyone, I want to share my most recent creation: Manfred von Richthofen’s Albatros DIII bi-plane. It is my second entry in the ISCC contest. Pictures of the plane can be found here: (URL) tell me what you think of it. Thanks, Ben Ellermann (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.build) !

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Reinhard "Ben" Beneke
(...) Dear Ben, I like your model alot (had to look twice at the bended knighs lance - or is that in fact a brown tube?), but are you maybe able to take new pictures? These are a little fuzzy and especially too dark to give a chance to get aware of (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Ben Ellermann
Dear Ben, (...) The pipe is a brown tube from a technic set. In addition the machine guns are technic 1 x 2 pins with brown tubes inside of them. (...) I will try to get new pictures sometime soon but I have college finals. Thank you for your (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Ben Ellermann
I have changed the contrast of the photographs so they are brighter. Unfortunately, the digital camera I am using can not do closeup shots well. Ben (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Jennifer Clark
(...) the (...) I think it looks excellent, a worthy adversory for the Sopwith Camel :-) The photos are a bit dark however, and don't show the model to its full effect; a bit of gamma correction would fix this no bother. Jennifer (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —George Haberberger
(...) Ben, Great model of an often overlooked WWI plane! You're making me want to order the Sopwich Camel for parts. George (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Bruce Schlickbernd
(...) I would have thought it easier to do the boxier Fokker D7 than the curvy Albatross, but I recognized the plane right away! Great job. Bruce (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Drew Lawrence
(cross-posted to lugnet.military as well) I saw yesterday when I was browsing Brickshelf's Recent stuff, and i was wondering if you would post it to Lugnet. (so we can shower you with praise for such an excellent model) You did a great job on it, I (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests, lugnet.build.military)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Ben Ellermann
(...) Thank you Drew for your praise. I had always wanted to build this model and spent three days constructing and reconstructing the plane. I am a perfectionist and not totally happy with the plane's fuselage and nose but it was really fun to (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests, lugnet.build.military)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Holger Matthes
Hi Ben, I didn't know that Richthofen also flew a bi-plane. Your model is very nice and it is in fact lots of fun to transfer the "set of the year" into a own creation. Do you know the Fokker DR I from Vancouer / Canada: (URL) my personal version of (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —George Haberberger
(...) Nice triplanes! How is the comma tale made, exactly? I don't konw of enough pieces to fill it in and make it solid. Thanks, George (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Ben Ellermann
(...) I do admit keeping the wheel design, although without cross bracing like the Sopwith Camel has, and the upper wing is almost identical except above the cockpit. (why change what works best?) The cockpit was also much more difficult because of (...) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Drew Lawrence
     (...) Yeah, I thought he flew a tri-plane as well. Here's my own minifig-scale version; (URL) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)

Re: Red Baron's Albatros DIII —Ben Ellermann
(...) Dear Drew, Richthofen flew several planes in WWI but the Albatros DIII was the one he painted red. More information is here: (URL) (23 years ago, 13-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.contests)
