    Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
Hey gang, here's my latest creation, and a contest entry in the Creativity Contest too. It's part town building, part sculpture. You can find the Octan World Headquarters on the town page. Cheers Adrian -- www.brickfrenzy.com (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.town, lugnet.build.contests, lugnet.build.arch) !!

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Pawel Nazarewicz
(...) That is amazing! Not only is it realistic, but it is also huge! Could you stand next to it and take another picture to give us more of an idea of its size? I guess I will pick my jaw up from the floor now ... -- Pawel (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Consider it done. Even though I'm 6'5", it still looks extremely impressive next to me. (...) Heh, thanks. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. My Ninja guys built this on the Isle Of Mist. :) Okay, maybe not. Adrian (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Well, you captured the BP Building perfectly! Just needs twice as many floors, as you said. That said, it's still huge! I can't wait to see your latest stuff IRL. The vents/fans at the top and the entire glass section are excellent too. --Bram (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Thanks. I really wanted to duplicate the unique shape of the building as much as I could. The facets on the roof and the bend in the middle were vital to that. I was bummed when I dove into the project and realized just how many bricks it'd (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Jason Spears
(...) Wow, that's big. Very nice. I like the use of your car front windshields for the front glass. The roof details are a neat touch. -Jason +---...---+ Jason Spears (URL) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Thanks. I wanted to try and emulate the sloped front of the real building as close as possible. The best way to do that, since I used all my thin walls for the roof panels, was to use car windshields, similar to what I used on the Museum ((URL) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Jonathan Lopes
(...) Congrats! What a great huge office building. I'll echo Jason's praise of the windows. The fans on the roof are nice too! Very nice! Jonathan (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Yeah, those Life On Mars fan housings are doing a pretty good job up there, aren't they. :) Thanks Adrian (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Bob Parker
(...) WoW! What a nice BIG building! And it's yellow too! Just like a certain hotel from a little while back... I think I saw an Octan press release indicating something about the falling prices of oil have caused them to consider putting the new (...)          Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Hey, don't be badmouthing the yellow :) And the fact that the Bricksburg Hotel and the Octan HQ are the same color is strictly coincidence. Since I was modelling the Octan HQ after a real building (and I didn't have 50,000 tan bricks) I built (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Bob Parker
(...) I like yellow just fine - after all, I have a 3033 Blue Tub full of yellow pieces. And I sure understand the lack of "real world" colored bricks in bulk tubs like the 3033. (...) Of course! And now that the Shell™ Exxon™ and Esso™ oil (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Josh Baakko
(...) HEY, watch you comments, Amoco™ has 60% of my city's business (there is a Shell™, & Octan too...) Josh (look for traveling Amoco tank trains & gas stations if I finnaly get to show up at a train show...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Pedro Silva
Hi Adrian, Very nice building. I especially like the angle between the two halves, is there any model to follow regarding proportions? How stable is the building, while resisting horizontal forces (ie, "shaken")? Pedro (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) I'm not sure what you mean by this, but the angle of the building is set by the large Star Wars wing <part:30355> and <part:30356> which are parts of the roof panels. Once I had that part in hand, figured out how big the windows would be, made (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Pedro Silva
(...) Actually, I meant "is there any mathematical model to follow, so that the halves' roofs fit together nicely, without 'holes'?" I did notice the clever use of the wings on the rooftop. What I was trying to know is whether or not you had (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Nope, the wings are what sets the angle. Thanks to the size of the building, small misalignments from one end to the other are eliminated, and everything can line up nicely. (...) As a matter of fact, as you can see from this image: (URL) is (...) (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Pedro Silva
(...) (snipped doubts and replies) (...) Way better! Thanks, Adrian. Keep up the good work! Pedro (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Chris Leach
(...) WOW! Great use of yellow!(me who traded alot of his yellow to Jason S.) I like the way you put it on angle.Great! (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)

Re: Octan World Headquarters —Adrian Drake
(...) Thanks. Not too many people have built buildings that aren't pretty much variations on the box. I enjoyed the challenge of making this thing bend in the middle. Adrian -- www.brickfrenzy.com (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.build.arch, lugnet.town)
