The one bit I’m not entirely keen on is under the ‘hips’. It feels to me that
something more machinelike would work better there than the current solution.

I didn’t fully understand what you mean by ‘hips’ (my english isn’t perfect :)
). But if you are talking about the legs, I’m also unhappy with the solution.
Maybe later I would do a new version, more stable and real look!
