The murfle concept was originally thought up way back when we had an Admin team.
I forget who had the idea, but Todd named it (it has that sort of Todd flare to
it). The concept was exactly as Tim described it - a compromise between
anti-censorship and the desire to keep Lugnet swear free.
My guess is that the post you originally linked to was Murfled as a test, before
we officially announced the new feature. However, that was right in the midst
of the turmoil. Then Suz returned and started expressing her vision for Lugnet,
so the old Admin team stepped down, and several of our ideas (including
murfling) basically died.
Unless Suz has resurrected the practice and not announced it, I'd guess that
murfling is not something you will see more of.
