Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) Don't mess with the Message-ID header. --Todd (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) Setting that header wouldn't have any effect -- the server ignores it if the client sends it. --Todd (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) I dunno. I think that the nntp server has final authority on that, but I'm still catching up on my nntp know-how... Cheers, - jsproat (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Coercing truncation in brief view on website (was: Re: test apple ignore berry)

(...) It sounds like what people are looking for is some way to proactively cause the "Brief" mode display to truncate content at a specific location -- presumably for spoilers...? The "right" way to handle that would be to truncate anything (...) (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.test, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) or, you could do it that way, too. :) any idea how to change the messageid header? (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) Actually, the problem was coming from the fact that slrn uses () instead of <> to separate the two, and the order *is* reversed. Here's what I ended up doing: In .slrnrc: interpret "lugnet_macros.sl" in lugnet_macros.sl: define (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) put these lines in your ~/.slrnrc file: hostname "io.com" set username "jsproat" set realname" Sproaticus" you'll probably also want the 'set custom_headers "X-Real-Life-Name: your name here"', too, if you don't already have it. you might have (...)   Re: Setting the From: header in slrn

(...) I'd get around a lot faster if my foot wasn't always in my mouth. Item #13 in the slrn FAQ in v0.9.6.2 specifies how to do this. I just need to define a s-lan macro called "make_from_string_hook" that returns the "From:" header as a string. (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Setting the From: header in slrn

Arg. My nntp "From:" header usually looks like this: From: "Sproaticus" <jsproat@io.com> ...but for some reason, slrn seems to want to do this: From: Sproaticus@yo-yo.pro...novell.com (Sproaticus) ...and won't let me change it. This header is (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: trying to change my email address

(...) That was indeed the problem, it is working now. I did't see the From header when I submitted, and had assumed it was generated by lugnet based on some other info(?), while in fact in my .emacs an instance of the old address had survived. Maybe (...) (24 years ago, 22-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: trying to change my email address

(...) Hello Juergen, When you say "has no effect," what did you expect to happen? That is, what did you do which had no effect but should have? (...) It looks like you're all set -- you just need to get your newsreader to send the following 'From:' (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

trying to change my email address

Hi! I'm trying to change my email address (the one that is reported in my news postings) from juergen@mpi-sb.mpg.de to stuber@loria.fr, but I'm having no luck.   Re: Skip filter settings; something wrong

(...) Thanks! [...] (...) I think this is a good idea, but you should be careful of changing the labels on these. People might get confused if you suddenly proclaimed everyone as a member.... You might want to give "type 1" a different name, even if (...) (24 years ago, 20-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Skip filter settings; something wrong

(...) Aha -- it's a real-cookie vs. virtual-cookie problem. The code handling the filter page was (correctly) looking at the virtual cookie in your member record but the code displaying the actual lists of articles was (incorrectly) still looking at (...)   Re: Skip filter settings; something wrong

(...) OK, so lemme get this straight: When you visit this URL: (URL) see lugnet.loc.au in the left-hand column, yet when you visit, for example, this URL: (URL) don't see the message in the middle posted to lugnet.loc.au by Richard Parsons? --Todd (24 years ago, 19-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Skip filter settings; something wrong

(...) Left. (...) Already did. I reboot my computer approximately once-twice a day, and I tried the setting a few days ago already. So, yeah. -Shiri (24 years ago, 19-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Skip filter settings; something wrong

(...) When you visit (URL) half of the page does lugnet.loc.au show up on (left or right)? What happens when you shut down your browser, reboot, and restart your browser, and revisit that page? Does it still show lugnet.loc.au in the same place? (...) (24 years ago, 19-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Skip filter settings; something wrong

(...) Ha! More proof that there is some anti-Australia Lego conspiracy going on. They've gotten to Todd! Well, that's what everyone in .au always seem to be saying anyway. :) Ben Roller (24 years ago, 18-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

  Skip filter settings; something wrong

(Yes yes, I know, this is .admin.nntp, but like Frank mentioned, it seems better to post here than to .admin.general.) Something is wrong with my skip-filter settings. I set them to ignore .loc, except for some specific groups. But it doesn't show (...) (24 years ago, 18-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
