Perhaps it could, if it is not already, be mentioned in the TOS. I just
enrolled with a work related list which make this point:

Finally there are some irksome obligations on the part of subscribers that
you should know about. In particular you alone are responsible for
maintaining your subscription. This applies especially to students: kindly
sign off before your subscribed email address becomes defunct or your
mailbox fills. Also please do not use any automatic replies as they go to
the entire list (potentially about 1000 busy folks).

The extent of how annoying this is, is mirrored by the fact that the above
is about the only terms the list has other than non-spamming of the group.
