Todd,
I just spent about an hour, on and off, typing a deep, well thought out
message to post via the Web interface. Lack of sleep and clumsy fingers made
me close the window before posting the message to the intended groups.
Stupid me.
I was wondering if it might be possible to develop a new feature for the Web
interface along these lines: a script (Java, CGI, whatever) attached to the
Post To page that pops up a warning box (a'la most software) to ask "You
were composing a message. Are you sure you want to close this page? You may
lose the message you were working on." whenever a click is made anywhere but
in the text boxes for the message or on the Preview or Post buttons.
I have seen similar things on the Web (NickJR comes to mind, asking if you
are sure you want to leave the current "kids" area for a "parents" area). I
think this would be a handy feature for LUGNET as well, and might save some
painful banging-of-the-head-on-the-wall in the long run.
Sleepily,
Matt

| (...) Whereas I like your suggestion (because I have done the same thing before), I have to think that Todd will "low-priority" this request -- there being such a lot of other stuff to attend to. For dumb***es like ourselves, I recommend a text (...) (23 years ago, 25-May-01, to lugnet.admin.general)
