That wasn't what my main complaint was about...What I didn't • like was that it
was posted to .general ONLY, with no reference to .loc.us • [where it would have
been more appropriate for the following discussion for a US • only competition.]
I have no problem with the announcement as such being in • .general [provided it
is appropriate to be there...it's just the following "looks • good", "I've
entered", etc posts that don't belong, and which should have • been pointed to
.loc.us [or some other group] initially.

When I made the original post, I did not know it was US only.
I went and
checked after you asked. At that point I guess I should have
set follow up to
.loc.us. When you noticed I didn't, you could have reminded
me instead on
putting on the ol' flame suit ;-)

Now, I see that this post is in three groups. I found it this
way and am
leaving it this way. No follow up tos set. Things are getting
too fuzzy, but I
think I get the main point of it all. If something general is
*known* to be
local, posting in .general is ok, but follow up to
appropriate local(s) and the
world will be a happy place. Can I get a ruling on that?

Julie

As I can't thread from work [I was using a seperate PC earlier, which is why
the earlier messages threaded] I hope you do read this...

I'm sorry you thought I was trying to flame you. The reason my message was
probably harsher than it should have been was that I have seen similar sorts
of posts in the past where the person posting the message DID know that it
was a post of interest to a specific group, but didn't x-post to the main
area of interest, and/or set follow-ups to there. [at one stage earlier this
year there were posts in this group every few days about local sales at
stores in the US, with replies] The only reason I thought you may have been
aware was that in general, most on-line sales/competitions are targeted
solely at the US market, and I had assumed that when you found out about the
competition, you had checked on this/seen this, but not worried about it [as
some people do].

All I wanted to do was to seek both clarification that all
area/theme/whatever specific messages [where this was known (not in this
case.)] were posted to .general were also to be posted to the appropriate
groups, with appropriate follow-ups set to these groups, and not general,
and to try and get peoples attention to this fact[1]. I had no intention of
flaming an innocent person, and I sincerely appologise if you thought this
was the case.

[the 3 groups were to get it to the .US area, .general, as otherwise no-one
would read it, and .admin for Todd's notice/discussion]

[1] Like a certain discussion about 1x1 tiles that possibly should look
towards .db.inv (?)

No hard feelings here at all. I didn't take it personally. Mis use of .general
was an issue for you, and my post was the one that seemed to have lit the spark
to let Todd know your feelings. And he agreed with you.

I learned a little something and I'm ready to move on :-)

au...
That's what I thought...
<puts on flame retardant suit>
Why then did you post to .general [being for general • interest] and not to
.loc.us [for items of specific interest to US residents • as opposed to the
rest of the world]?

After all...if I started saying that my local Kmart • [neglecting to mention
I
live in Victoria, Australia] had X-Wings for $15 on clearance, and • everyone
around the US went to their local KMart and found that it • wasn't there,
there'd be all sorts of complaints. Therefore, I only post things • regarding
Aus in .loc.au and would expect others to act in a • similar matter with
their
posts.

In fact, Todd has agreed with this sort of observation in • the past [yet
done
little to police it :( ]:
http://www.lugnet.com/news/display.cgi?lugnet.loc.au:494
[I see no difference between sales posts as mentioned, • and others like
this
competition.]

Todd: any chance you could do something to stop posts • about US ONLY items
of
info finding their way to areas that aren't US ONLY ? • [maybe make it
clearer
that .general is NOT for items of interest to ONLY 1 • country, no matter
what
percentage of lugnet users are from that country?]
