I propose that we all follow the following as common courtesy.
When sending an e-mail that is exactly or essentially a duplicate,
include "LUGNET COPY" in the subject line and/or make it the first
line of the e-mail text.

Hmm.  Do you know of any emailer or newsreader that even lets you send a
message to two different places at the same time but with different subject
lines?  I don't.  I guess you could forward something to someone after the
fact, and then change the subject line, but that's even messier.

Todd: (or others?) Feel free to override or improve this suggestion.

I don't like it.  First, it increases the probability that subject lines will
contain extra all-caps words in any replies (if someone replies to the cc'd
email and directs that back to the group without deleting the added label),
and second, it seems to give some validation to cc'ing by mail.

I agree with everything Larry said, and I can't in good conscience do anything
to help support the habit off cc'ing people on public postings.  The only time
it should be done is in rare and truly urgent matters where a public post has
to be made quickly, and a private e-mail has to be sent quickly as a back-up
measure, in case someone doesn't check public messages regularly.  In those
cases, it's customary to put something at the bottom saying that the post is
being cc'd to the person to whom it's mainly replied.

In the case of mailing list interaction, I don't believe it's generally
considered rude to cc someone when posting to the list, although I try very
hard not to do it.  Since the newsgroups here are all postable-to by e-mail,
I'd imagine that some of the cc's people are receiving are from people doing
a Reply-To-All and not deleting the reply person.
