Actually, that's only about 1/3 of the reason. Separating news from the main
site also helps solve a bunch of current problems and avoid a bunch of new
ones. For example, having news.lugnet.com distinct from www.lugnet.com now
makes it much easier later to move news.lugnet.com to a new and separate
server box. The rest of the issues are practical ones as well but more along
the lines of content management and URL namespace issues.
