Even <http://www.nd.edu/~ahoekwat My Site> would suffice? On the surface (at
least) it is a spiffy idea, for the following reasons:
a) Removes the inconsistency caused by the "set:6277 My favourite set"
implementation.
b) Allows long URLs to be entered and displayed on the web-interface without
breakage. Although, IMHO encapsulating a(n) URL between <> should automatically
instruct the server to patch together the URL as best it can.
Actually, maybe that's why it isn't implemented? Eg:
<http://optionoveruse.com/?aardvark=pink&umbrella=golf&sky=blue&flibblegibblet=squiffy
site list>
Now, does the server take the text to be "squiffy site list", as that is where
the line-break occurs? Or does it use some intelligence to parse the URL,
notice the unqualified '=', and assume (correctly) that the text should be
"site list"?
I bet there are other URLs that don't conform to an easily parseable format
though, eg:
<http://optionoveruse.com/?aardvark=pink&umbrella=golf&sillyword=bingybongybangybungy
site list>
Even in that case though, is it possible to detect line-breaks some other way?
It's not safe to assume a 79-character width expect for those posted from the
web-interface..
