Unfortunately, I believe you are correct.

I don't know his motives any better than I assume you do, but it seems to me
that he moved it to .debate in order to marginalize my attempts to steer this
discussion back toward the central issue of his conduct.

I have e-mailed Rene privately about this matter, and only made my comments
public when I began to suspect that my messages were landing in his spam folder.

So sorry to bore you with my petty concerns. Please, don't let me distract you
from the excitement of reading about dangling HTML tags on the new LUGNET front
page.

That makes perfect sense! Rene should take unprecedented administrative action
against the community for expressing our outrage, but should do absolutely
nothing in response to the initial incident which caused all of this.
Brilliant!

The real harm that has been done is to the community's trust of this board. We
have now seen that a curator will be allowed to use their position to carry out
a personal attack against another member without any repercussion. Maybe that
doesn't bother you. It clearly does bother a good many people here, and we are
still waiting for some kind of reassuring administrative statement. So I do not
agree that the "confusion" has "since been sorted out."

If you subscribe to .admin.general, then you should expect to receive every
message that crosses this group. This is an administrative issue, and this
discussion correctly belongs in this group. And please don't try to blame me
for the length of this discussion thread. If you want to point fingers, look no
further than he who lit the fuse.
What "almost" killed LUGNET was the endless flame wars. Which is precisely why
LUGNET the organization must not be allowed to become party to those very flame
wars, as has happened in this case. If Ross doesn't think he did anything
wrong, and if Rene doesn't take any action, then I guarantee that we will be
right back here "debating" in .admin general 3 months from now.
(sigh.)
