Hi Anders,
you are right, I am not exactly happy about the turnaround time for new posts
either, although there are multiple factors leading to the relatively slow
posting behavior.
You will realize that using email or NNTP for posts usually are quite quick
methods, unfortunately requiring authentication by email. This however is the
only reasonable means of keeping spam out (we saw what happens if we loosen the
grip there, and we certainly don't want a spam flood on LUGNET).
I am still looking into ways to increase the response performance for web based
posting. Interestingly, there are posts that go through really fast while others
take up to 45 seconds. As with all the small issues that keep coming up every
now and then, we will try to fix them as soon as possible.
As for the paid membership, the major benefit when posting via web is that you
will not have to authenticate your posts at all as the web based posts will be
authenticated by your login status. For NNTP or email, authentication of your
posts will continue to be required. The current performance of web posts is
certainly not intended and IMHO would be a poor attempt to motivate member
registration to begin with.
So no worries, we are working on it.
Regards,
Jerry
