Lastly, if there is a piece of LUGNET content that you think needs to be fixed, updated, or if you have any ideas on how to help, please let us know!

Hey Lenny,

I’ve got a Few ideas.

First, the personal webpages are a hugely underused feature of Lugnet. On the front page there is a button for how to go about making a personal page, but there is no master list (or at least none that is prominent enough for me to find) of the currently existing Lugnet member pages. So the member pages fly completely under the radar. As such, fewer people are likely to even make them.

Polls. Again, very underused. You’ll only know of a poll if you happen to see the initial posting in the newsgroups. Again, some prominent button on the first page would make polls more accessible, and therefore they would be used more.

The membership page. If you go to this link: http://www.lugnet.com/people/members/bylastname.cgi it takes forever to load - and I’m on a fast connection. I can’t imagine what this would do to someone on dial-up. There are 2490 members on the list. This should be broken up into separate pages by alphabet, so you first click to “sort by name” and then that just has an alphabet and you can then click on a letter. There could be a “show me the whole list” option for those with some time to kill. (The same could be said for the “sort by member number” and “sort by country” versions of the member list.)

CLSOTW. I came out of my dark ages due to three things--a cheap promotional set at my local Shell station, the fact that my parents hadn’t thrown out my childhood collection, and CLSOTW. I was supposed to start helping with this a year ago. It was waiting on some programming issues, and I never heard back on this. I would still be happy to help in finding sites and writing up reviews of the winning sites. Even if we don’t have current polls on CLSOTW, we should still have a clear link to the archives. Right now they are invisible from the Lugnet home page unless you happen to remember the URL. I would also be happy to help go through the archives and flag dead links and, where possible correct any changed URLs (for instance, my site in the CLSOTW still points to the old dead ozbricks.net address rather than ozbricks.com; I know of several other sites that have since changed URLs).

Finally, and perhaps the hardest to address, the center panel of the Lugnet front page needs to have regularly updated content, similar to that seen on Classic-Castle and FBTB. I see no reason to visit www.lugnet.com and instead have set my bookmark to news.lugnet.com. Yes, there are currently 3 relatively new items (Brickfest, AFOL comic, LEGO train book), but in the meantime we’ve seen a summer catalog, the rollout of new sets, 1000steineland, and other major news.

Bruce
