That must have been the one from me!  Well I seem to be able to post new
messages here now - I think the problem was I hadn't understood the format
that I had to use to type in which newsgroup I was posting to if I do it from
the web page http://www.lugnet.com/news/post/.

Looking at the dead-articles (rejected) file here on the server, I can see
that your newsreader was sending your real e-mail address in the 'From:'
header field of your messages.  However, when you filled out the news-
posting setup, you told the server that your newsreader would be sending a
spamblocked e-mail address.  In other words, there was a mismatch, and thus
your articles were rejected.

I'm still not clear what you're supposed to type in in the follow-up
to box on that page - I assume that's for if you're replying to a post.

The 'Followup-To:' header field is optional and directs follow-ups to your
message (which other people post later) into a different group than the one
you posted to.

(For example, the 'Followup-To:' header field on this article that I am
posting now is set to lugnet.admin.general, and the article is crossposted
to lugnet.off-topic.test & lugnet.admin.general so that it appears in both
places during the crossover.  If there are any followups to this article, I
don't want them to go back into the .test group because the .test group
isn't a discussion group -- it's just a foofoo group for testing.)

I'm posting this from the http://www.lugnet.com/news/post/ page,
after an attempt to do it from my newsreader produced the same
'message not accepted' message advising me to fill in a posting setup.
Possibly that's a problem with my browser.

I think it's just a configuration mismatch between what you entered the
first time and what your newsreader sent.  If you avoid spamblocks (which
are evil anyway) and simply use your real e-mail address everywhere, it's
much less likely that you'll run into any subtle configuration problems.

I'd also still like absolute confirmation that if I post from my email -
which is far easier for me - then only my spamblock email address will
appear - but I'm emailing Todd separately about that.

If you post from e-mail, then whatever your e-mailer sends is what will
appear.  That is, if your e-mailer doesn't include a spamblock on outgoing
messages, then your real e-mail address will show up, assuming that you've
been cleared to post from that address.  (Note:  I don't think you're
currently cleared to post from your non-spamblocked e-mail address...you'll
need to re-run the news-posting setup if you want to add that.)

For best results all around, avoid all spamblocks in the first place.
