Opps, I forgot to reply.... yes I did check the mint copy of the 1961 Samsonite
Catalog. The writing does say "V1867". So this is not a date (1967?), but some
internal code?
Since LEGO (Samsonite) was sold in the USA for the first time in 1961, and since
this catalog was the first USA LEGO Catalog (I remember as a child (1961-62)
dreaming about getting the Junior Constructor set from this catalog). Whe I did
get a Junior Constructor for Christmas in 1962, I was disappointed that it was not
the one in my catalog, but the modern house version that came out in late 1962. I
also have a copy of a 1 page advertisement from a November 1962 Saturday Evening
Post that shows the "new" Junior Constructor. That's how I am dating these 2
catalogs (and sets) to:
Early Samsonite Catalog - 1961 - (early) 1962.
Later Samsonite Catalog - late 1962 - 1964.
Also, on a different note, I counted the pieces to the Junior Constructor (the
modern house version of 1962-64, not the gabled house version of 1961-62) and there
are 500 pieces (for the database piece count). The set I picked up on EBAY last
year had all mint condition pieces (Cellulose Acetate!), and none were missing when
I assembled the house.
