Re: Sensor supply voltage & PC communication

hi. you can certainly tap the 9.6v batt output to power the sensor (use J13), but make *sure* that the sensor does not put out more than 5v, or you'll blow your analog inputs. if you're not sure, put a 1K resistor in series with the sensor's output (...)   Re: handy board troubles...

re: this problem with the memory contents not persisting, check the separate power supply to the RAM (U14). you might need to remove all socketed ICs from the board 'cause power can bleed to chips via input pins. also check that U12 the DS1233 is (...)   Re: HandyBoard Charging

no, to do the battery run-down test, you must not have it plugged in! otherwise you'd just be powering it from the adapter, and you'd never run out of juice. so, the steps are: 1. bootload your HB with pcode_hb.s19. you should see the Interactive C (...) The HB is supposed to be in special test mode, see (URL) . Re your downloading problems, first, see the debug info at (URL) the Windows serial debug test there, make sure that the serial signals are getting from the HB's RJ11 connector to the 68HC11 (...)   Re: Battery Power and handyboard.

i'm not sure if wiring two nicad packs in parallel is a good idea. the packs would fight each other if either one's voltage varied even slightly from the other. i'd recommend either (1) John's initial suggestion of adding a separate pack solely for (...)   Re: Another assembly question

the fact that the two LEDs come on and then go off suggests that you *are* successfully putting the hc11 into download mode. it also happens that the hc11 TxD pin is in what's called "wired OR mode" during bootstrap. this means that it can only (...)   Re: LEGO Rotation Sensor

Rob, a few Q's: 1. Can you verify that +9v is being applied to the sensor by transistor Q2. Measure the voltage at the collector, you should see a pulsed waveform (rectangular wave) with +9v on's and 0v off's. (Refer to (URL) What is the (...)   Re: Over Charging

When the batteries are really run down, they can draw too much current through the on-board charging circuit. (I'm assuming you are plugging adapters directly to the HBs, rather than going through the serial interface/phone line charge ckt.) About 6 (...)   Re: Overcharged battery?

no i disagree with this answer. the HB is designed to be left on normal charge indefinitely. the batts can get a little warm. if they are hot then something is wrong, but a little warm is nothing to worry about. when fully charged and with no load (...)   Re: Reset & running Main ( )

John, a couple things. 1. when you quit and restart IC, it forgets what programs you may have loaded into the HB. so that explains your #4 case below. 2. IC has its own way of storing vectors for user code like your main() program, so you should not (...) (23 years ago, 30-Dec-01, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

see the v1.21 parts list in the hardware section, for the following info: re: R4's value.
