| actually this is to be expected. with no load, the diodes produce no drop. if you're worried, try hooking a DC motor (or other real load -- light bulb, 10 ohm resistor, etc). across the servo motor supply and then measure the voltage. you should see (...) | it sounds like it's a problem with your downloader configurations -- neither of them can open the COM port. were you able to connect "Direct to COM1" with HyperTerminal when doing the Windows Serial Debug? it's odd that that would work and then the (...) | look on the polaroid board itself. it has (or used to, anyhow) a blank space where you could mount a component that is labeled "C7". the cap goes there. if you absolutely cannot find a spot on the polaroid board labeled C7, they must have updated (...) | Kalyan, The gray squares on the LCD simply mean that the HB doesn't have its pcode program loaded. So it doesn't indicate a hardware failure. With Window 2K, were you able to open "Direct to COM1" using HyperTerminal? If no, this definitely (...) (25 years ago, 24-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

| i don't know this offhand. you'd have to assemble the pcode source and look and see where it ends up. it's a ring buffer tho' so it might be a little tricky. you'd be better off patching the lcd print interrupt routine (it unspools one char per ms (...) | great, that's excellent! the key trick was pulling all the socketed chips. it's a weird but true fact that chips that don't have valid logic supplies can draw power in from their inputs pins (when the inputs are high) and operate off of that leeched (...) | Replacement battery options are listed on the HB FAQ, at: (URL) don't you get the 1000 mAh packs from Radio Shack? That would give you 2x the run time of the 500 mAh packs. | Hi Ed -- it *could* be that the desktop you're using isn't set up right to download to the HB's. do you have a known good HB you can use to test the download? alternately, there are some serial line debug instructions at (...) does not boot (...) | I thought originally you were interested in building .icb files, not rebuilding the pcode file. If you want to rebuild the pcode, you need the HB distribution of the pcode, which is at (URL) . | do you have the recommended 12v, 500 ma DC adapter? if not, that explains it. if so, sometimes when the batt is fully charged, you don't get much in trickle charge mode and the light is off. but usually you should see the light being lit dimly. are (...) | basically, yes. the inputs from the expansion board feed into the inputs on the main board. if you need a high impedance input, your best bet is to cut a trace on the main board and use one of those inputs. the exp bd takes over main board inputs 0 (...) | The LEGO shaft encoder and light sensor are active sensors that need a special circuit. The Expansion Board for the HB provides this ckt and the requisite drivers.
