Sounds like they must have got some more stock. I picked up the 6969 for £14.99 (I think) some months ago from Safeway, but they ran out long ago. They had 6919 back then too, but also at more than £8.99. I'll check my local and pick up some more at (...) (27 years ago, 27-Sep-99, to lugnet.loc.uk)

(...) I'll agree here. The problem I see is that there already are lego sets and themes designed for younger children: Duplo, Fabuland, Basic... If they 'juniorize' the older kids' stuff, then what's not to stop them from juniorizing things like (...) (27 years ago, 27-Sep-99, to lugnet.town)
