(...) Well, as it happens I ran into a LEGO rep in Myer the other day and she knew of no plan to carry 8288 in any retail chain. However I do know Moore Educational have it in stock for $88 - 2 bucks cheaper than S@H. ROSCO (20 years ago, 24-Oct-06, to lugnet.loc.au)
