The GMLTC contingent made it home safe and sound, although having travelled a
bit farther than expected. (Ok, Ill admit it - I got on the wrong freeway
heading out from one of the Chicago Lego stores! Doh!!)
The show was absolutely unbelievable. Somewhere around THIRTY operating train
and monorail loops, more great MOCs than I could shake a stick at, people from
over a dozen different clubs all coming together and joining effort and putting
on something amazing.
I heard SO MANY comments from the traditional model railroaders, and every
single one was positive...
I think we raised the bar on what the LEGO train community can do, and for the
visibility and acceptance of LEGO trains in the model railroading world.
I hope to post pictures later this week - Im sure there will be several hundred
of them posted from different people!
To all the folks who made this happen, I tip my cap to you. Thanks for letting
a couple of GMLTC misfits come play on the coolest LEGO train layout Ive ever
seen...

The NGLTC and CUT groups are also now home, and cleaning up the mess that Dennis
left in Atlanta (some of the streets near me are still flooded, but thankfully
my apartment was left unscathed).
I had never been to an event at this scale; Ive stayed local for the past 2
years. And I was blown away, not only by the quality of the various layouts,
but also by the quality of the people behind them. I met so many helpful people
that either helped pack or unpack the CUT, made food runs, etc. And I cant
begin to list them all, mainly because Im really bad with names. I think itll
take two or three more big events for me to learn all these names.
I still have to go through my photos to post and to borrow ideas for some MOCs
that have been on the back burner for a while. I was taking so many pictures, I
killed my battery twice (I wised up and just brought a recharger on Sunday).
I thought this was amusing (and unfortunately my camera was packed). As the
NGLTC/CUT/GFLTC convoy left Cincinnati Monday morning, a train was coming in
over the viaduct. I was looking at the various stock cars going by, picturing
them in brick, when a green hopper goes by. The leasing companys abbreviation?

It would have been better had the train been leaving Cincinnati with us, but
still...
Again, I cant begin to express enough thanks to those who organized this event,
to those who helped me, and to those who were genuinely good people to know.
