FEBRUARY ??   Geez!  While I appreciate wanting a nice live audience for a
public unveiling, couldn't you at least snap a few pics for us and whip up a
brief post?  I've been wondering if these kind of mods have been tried
before, and what methods were used -- and then you say you've done it --
multiple times even!

And now I have to wait three months to find out the details!  (and possibly
longer -- I won't be there so I'll have to wait for an online description
afterwards)

Throw us a bone or something.  Please!

Jewler's saw, dremel, 5 min epoxy resin, small (18 watt Antax in my case)
soldering iron, 60/40 solder, liquid flux, a largeish smoothish file (I use a
10" lathe file that is handy...you want a reasonably smooth file, not a bastard
(1), a 2x8 brick to ruin (need 1), and 2x4 plates (1 per special piece).

Rest should be self evident as to how to apply them.  The Jewelers saw to cut
the plastic bit, with the 2x8 brick as a fence to guide the start in the
plastic, Use the Dremel to cut the metal rail when you get to it.  It is
possible to cut the rail with a fine Jewelers saw, but since I have a Dremel,
I use it.  Cut the rail in 2 places, at the 2nd tie in, in the middle.  Use the
file and the 2x4 plate to make the two ends you now have fit together with the
2x4 plate in place over the cut tie.  When you have made up a batch (2 or
however many you are making), mix up some epoxy, and glue the 2x4 plate between
the two segments on top of the tie.  Let harden, and then take your iron, and
some solder, reconnect the two parts.  If you do it right, you don't have to
use wire to go around the cut, you can just solder the two rails together.

(1)- Bastard, in this case, is the correct use of the word- a "Bastard" File is
rather too corse for this purpose, since it will tend to pull the metal off the
plastic- trust me.
