I agree, the Technic crown gear is one of the most realisticly sized & shaped
object for a fan cover that I have seen. It even curves over around the edges
like the real fan covers do!

Unfornately, I can't claim this as my discovery.  I first saw this technique
on one of Ben Fleskes' engines.
