Having built a nice independant suspension 'half chassis' with Znap flexi
drive shafts and a diff unit for a mindstorms platform, the thorny issue of
steering has become pressing!
What I want to do it to use an identical unit at the other end with a
central steering pivot between them, the obvious solution involving a large
tuntable........
What I really want is something with more degrees of freedom, as observed on
quarry dump trucks which have a hydraulically controlled pivot which can
accomodate rough terrain. I am contemplating using a combination of sprung
shock absorbers (to react to different ground levels) and pneumatic
cylinders (for steering control) with a large ball joint.
Has anyone done anything along these lines??

| I once made a 4WD chassis based on the classic 24 x 43 technic wheels. I used one of the large turntables. Not for steering, but rather to achieve the ability for the chassis to "twist". By putting one turntable with the rotation direction forwards, (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jan-02, to lugnet.technic)
