A quick look at Bionicles

Living halfway between the sticks and the boonies as
I do, in upstate NY, my TRU is usually the last to get new
stuff so I was happy to see Bionicles arrive last weekend
together with the price reduction on the Droid Developer go
into effect. (I bought both sets ;)

I had bought a number of Slizers and Roboriders primarily
because of the Technic content; ie; specialised pieces
which can be used in other applications. In particular,
32166 and 32167, ref;

(Thanks, Jim Hughes, for creation and ongoing maintenance of
one of the most valuable Technic resources on the web.)

are quite useful. 32166s with worms installed can be nested to
make multiply jointed arms.

Although the central gearbox part of the Bionicle is quite a clever
piece, and I suspect it will start showing up in other Lego applications
as well as MOCs, my great disappointment is that every Bionicle
appears to be the same except for some decorative parts that are
of little interest. At least the Slizers had some other modestly valuable
parts like a variety of colors of 40 tooth gears.

I am somewhat disappointed that TLC is relying solely on color to
differentiate the more important new pieces in these new sets.
