Back in May my company sent me to Minneapolis and I actually
had time to visit the Mall of America. I expected more of the
Lego Imagination Center; however, enjoyed it anyways. I was
rather disappointed by the prices they charge for their sets-
$40 for a Sith Infiltrator.
At any rate, they have these display boxes for each theme, such
as Insectoids, Rock Raiders, and STAR WARS!!! While the Rock
Raiders display was cool, the best display was the one featuring
Star Wars.
The designers divided the bottom of the display into thirds.
Each third represented one of the three original Star Wars
episodes:
Episode IV - A New Hope
This third of the display modeled Luke's home on Tatooine. Of
course it featured the land speeder model.
Episode V - The Empire Srikes Back
This third of the display modeled Echo Base on Hoth; a big snow
covered mountain-side with a hanger carved out. There was a
Y-wing fighter sitting inside the hanger with technicians working
on it. Outside there was a snow speeder flying away from the
hanger.
Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
This third was my favorite and the definitely the coolest. It
modeled the jungle terrain of Endor. Smack in the middle of this
jungle was a large platform with Darth's Tie fighter sitting on
top. Plenty of storm troopers and a few speeder bikes. And the
crown jewel...the shield generator dish. The platform I refer
to was only shown once in ROTJ. It is much bigger in the movie
and has a Lamda-class shuttle parked on it, rather Darth's Tie
fighter. In addition, the shield generator dish isn't to scale.
In fact, this display paid little attention to scale. Despite
that, it looked cool.
I hoped I haven't bored you Jonathan, but the display was worth
describing. You wanted to know about Death Stars...
...above the bottom of the display hung a model of Death Star II.
I would say that it was about 8" in diameter (maybe a little
bigger--May was a long time ago for me). It looked very nice,
complete with the big laser disk and the partly constructed
lower hemisphere.
Arond Death Star II circled a X-wing fighter with the canopy
open and Luke waving his light saber about.
I would imagine that the display is still there. So if you have
gobs of money to spend, go to the airport and take a trip to
Minneapolis. The Mall of America is a hop, skip, and a jump
from the airport. I may have to go out there again soon. Perhaps
this time I will take my digital camera and I can mail you some
pictures. I would put them on my web-site, but I barely have
time to breath these days, let alone maintain a bloody web-site.

Actually, I once made a Death Star out of a 2x2x.3 Brick,
and all the bacteria on it were the X-wings and TIEs, having a big battle.
It also blew up a few 1x1x.1 asteriods.

On my recent visit to the LEGO Imagination Center in the Disney Marketplace
in Orlando, FL (45 minute drive for me) I took my camcorder and got lots of
great shots. Inside is a Star Wars display that has a small 8" Death Star.
I'll put some images of it up on my web site, but it will be the middle of
next week sometime because we're going away for the long holiday weekend.
There was also a 6'-8' long model of the Death Star's trench. If you want
those too, LMK.

I think there have been several posts (either to RTL or Lugnet) about this...
There have been 2 or 3 different references to sites that have pictures of SW
displays including death stars. Did you search the newsgroups at all? If not,
do. At any rate, here's one site:
